Would you ever...want to live in another country?

Have you ever thought of what it would be like to live in another country? Learn the language? Immerse yourself in the history and traditions? Take in new cultures, cuisines, and customs?

I certainly have! I think it’s the avid traveler in me that seeks to visit new places and expand my horizons. We live in such a global marketplace now that the planet has almost become smaller in a way. We can “visit” places virtually via the Internet, but how cool would it be to actually pack up and live in another country for a while for the amazing experience of it?

You could head north to Canada and take in the natural beauty of her cities and parks from Vancouver to Toronto (one of my favorite cities)...

... to Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island.

You could head over the pond to jolly old England and explore the British Isles of Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

What about Paris? Oh, come on...the City of Love...the City of Lights! Everyone wants to go to Paris. It’s the only place in the world where you can eat three squares a day, walk everywhere, and lose weight!

***

Perhaps Florence is more your style with its old, cobblestone streets and ancient buildings like Uffizi and the Duomo. You could live off wine and gelato!

***

You could jet on down to Rome – the birthplace of civilization. See the Vatican, the Coliseum, the Forum...etc.

***

Ever heard of Mauritius? It’s an amazing island in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Africa and Madagascar. They say the water is crystal clear, like the Caribbean.

And the Orient...wow...think of all you could search and discover there in Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan...

It’s a big planet and it’s ours to explore!

I think if I had all the money in the world, I would summer in Toronto and winter in Paris, with a villa on the French Riviera (in Villefranche Sur De Mer) and would vacation in a different place every time. If I could just move away...I think I’d want to work in a resort in Antigua...cutting fruit. Doesn’t that sound lovely?

Where would you move if you could?

Great post, Marley! Well, no doubt Italy is in the picture, since we have a family home there. I am also NUTS about Australia and Great Britain. I could see myself dividing my time between these three...

My husband and I are always saying that when we're in our forties, we'll move to Paris and get a little apartment there. When we visited there, both of us fell head over feet in love with the city. I would move there in a heartbeat.

I also want to visit Italy either late this year or mid-next year...so that might be one of my future homes too :)

Oh, I just know I'm gonna be the odd bee out today! All of these places are gorgeous but I really have no desire to leave the country anymore. If I could live anywhere, I'd pick Hawaii. It's too bad you'll be out of the country, Tina. I guess I'll have to visit Josh on the set by myself!

Ooooh, what a fun post. I love traveling and dreaming about traveling. My future husband and I (1 month till our wedding!!) are planning on moving to Africa for a year to volunteer. Not sure exactly where--probably Kenya or Ghana, but we are both very excited for the chance to live somewhere else and experience a whole new way of life.
Also, my boyfriend is English, so we've discussed moving to the UK as well. I LOVE to travel! Can't get enough!!

If I could leave now I'd be gone in all honesty. I'd choose either Rome - when I studied there a few years ago I didn't want to come back to Canada, or Mallorca in Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain - I love the Mediterranean sea, sun, and sand.

*sighs wistfully*

Yes, Steph, I see your point about loving the US...and let's just say I'll be back to both for frequent visits. So save me a seat on the set! :)

Oh wow! Those pictures are fantastic. I would love to live in tons of other places. Paris, Tokyo, Berma, Sydney, Alaska. Too many places to choose from. Thanks for the post. It's great to dream.

When I first came to Italy, I planned to stay 2 years to travel and experience a different side of Italy, and then return home. But I ended up meeting my Italian husband--something I never expected--and we've lived in Japan, the U.S., and now here in Italy.

As Steph mentioned, living abroad does make me miss the U.S., but I think I appreciate it more now than I did when I lived there. I'd highly recommend living abroad to anyone who has the chance!

Oh, I think about living abroad every third thought or so. Realistically, I probably never would live abroad full time--between my family being here and needing to promote my career. (I'll just travel abroad for international promotion, like Meg Cabot)

Still, if I did take the plunge, tops on my list of faves are: Paris (of course), the Scottish Highlands, and (my current obsession) Buenos Aires. So beautiful and so affordable.

I'd want to live in Greece. Ever since I saw Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I want to go now.

I wish I would have traveled more when I was younger, and lived in another country for a while. I really missed out on that part of my life!

Yes, I would live abroad, probably in London or Paris, though I adore the South of France. Maybe I could just have a villa there?

I would always come home to the US though. I'd miss my fam too much.

I would love to move to Austrailia or Scotland. I wouldn't mind moving to Hawaii either.
