When I was little there were only three television channels...

Seriously, people. Three channels. Oh, and my parents had a remote control. It was me. I'm totally not kidding. I can remember sitting in front of the television for what seemed like forever while I turned (yes, the tv had a dial that you actually turned) the dial and waited as they took their sweet time deciding what to watch. We didn't have DVR's, DVD's, or even VCR's. If you wanted to watch a Charlie Brown Christmas show, you better have your butt in front of the tv at the right time, and you better not have to pee because you're going to miss something if you do.

Okay, now that I've completely dated myself. Kids have so many more choices in television programming today. Heck, they don't even need a television. They can watch DVD's and shows right on their computers, phones, Ipads, etc. And while I still love all the Charlie Brown shows, today's animated movies are amazing.

The other day I took my boys to see Gnomeo & Juliet. It was completely adorable. If I'm being honest I think I wanted to see it more than they did. It was the best animated film I had seen in a while. And the story was so sweet. It's fun trying to figure out who out the voices behind the animated characters too. My favorite was a bully gnome named Tybalt. Jason Statham was the voice behind this tough guy gnome which was a perfect fit. Some of the funnier characters were a deer voiced by Ozzy Osbourne and Hulk Hogan as a psycho lawn mower.

If you get a chance to see this one, I'd definitely recommend it. What is your favorite animated film?
And have you seen what's coming next summer? I can't wait!

Thanks for the recommendation, Steph. My favorite animated movie right now is Toy Story 3. I love it from beginning to end...

As for this summer, has anyone heard an update on the sequel to The Hangover? I'd be interested in that!

TS3 was adorable. I sobbed my eyes out.
We saw Hall Pass last weekend and they had a short ad for Hangover2. It shows the wolf pack walking in Bangkok with a little monkey walking with them. I can't wait. It comes out Memorial Day weekend.

My favorite 4 animated films these days are Shrek, Monsters Inc, Megamind and Robin Hood (old school). I haven't seen TS3 yet but we have it so as soon as I can carve out a couple of hours I'm on it! Still need to see Gnomeo and Juliet and Rango, too.

I love a ton of animated films. My current favorites include Wall-E, Ponyo, The Little Mermaid, The Incredibles, and Howl's Moving Castle.

Haven't yet seen Gnomeo, or Megamind, so thanks for the recommendations, everyone!

Great post!!!--makes me remember when I was a kid!--When I was going into pre-school, we moved to a new house and got a tv with a remote...and Nickelodeon. When I was a little older, I got to have the old tv in my room, it was fuzzy and staticy, so somewhere along the way I ended up with a little newer tv--both had dials--but basically I had the choice between fuzzy color, or clear black and white...I went with black and white (which was perfect for watching Nick-At-Night, anyway)

So animated films...it's hard to choose!!! There are so many good ones, my top faves are The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and now that Wendy mentioned it, I have to add Robin Hood, too.

and all the Toy Stories, and Shrek, and Monsters, Inc., and Nemo, and Wall-E...

I was expecting to like Despicable Me, but thought it was only so-so--And surprisingly (to me) ended up really enjoying Mega Mind!!!

As for the Smurfs, I'm hesitant, but being a child of the '80s I can't NOT see it, so we'll see how it goes ;)
