I'm kind of a geek like that.

I'm just going to admit it. I like doing my taxes. There is just something about those forms, a couple of sharpened pencils, and the instruction manuals that weigh as much as a small dog that get me excited every year.
I used to think it was because I knew I would be getting a big check back. Then I realized that I just really enjoyed how cut and dry the rules are. There is no wiggle room. Either you are eligible for the deduction or you aren't. You have to double and triple check your work because let's face it, if you make a mistake in your favor, they'll come calling. But if you make a mistake in their favor, they'll consider it a tip and move on.

Most of my friends cringe when they hear that I don't use Turbo Tax or any software. But it just wouldn't be the same without the paper forms. I have a feeling that I'm going to be forced to file electronically within the next few years though. But for now I've got my stack of forms and instruction manuals piled high on my kitchen table.

Confession time: What 'geeky' chore do you secretly enjoy?

ps-Taxes aren't due until April 18 this year, so you can put it off a few more days!

I'm not old enough to have income taxes yet but they sound pretty wonderful :)
I am a huge geek and one thing that people can't understand about me is that I absolutely love going back-to-school shopping! The rows and rows of countless pencils, glue sticks and sticky notes are just so fun to go through.
I also love organizing my binders and such wth dividers and sections, though they never stay that way.

My husband loves taxes, too!

Among my geeky enjoyments is the flow through the home of products. For example, I love it when we finish the ketchup. I rinse the bottle and put it in recycling bin and am happy to open the new one. Weird, but I guess I'm a sucker for "happy endings" and "new beginnings."

Karen, I'm a total sucker for the school supply aisle also!

Tina, the only part of waitressing I ever liked was "marrying" the ketchup. I just thought it was kind of sweet. :)

Ummm...geeky Librarian traits showing...I love to alphabetize. I alphabetize my books by author, series, then title. I alphabetize my DVD collection, my husband's DVDs...and a lot more that I'm not sure I should admit to...:P
I love the organization. The feeling of knowing that I know exactly where something is. I can put my hand on it immediately if I need it. I, uh, organize our stuff a lot.

Marrying the ketchup! :) Perfect term.

Along those lines, must share that when my husband and I were dating, we got into a conversation about ketchup and why it wouldn't come out of the bottle...wouldn't come out...wouldn't come out...then suddenly plopped in this big mess on your fries.

He told me it was a non-Newtonian fluid, and while I only partially GOT the whole meaning, I similarly decided it might be okay to marry a guy who had such good answers!

Jessica, I've got some stuff for you to alphabetize. I hate that task! ;)
Tina, that's a great story. I bet he knows almost everything!

@Karen and Steph--I'll meet you in the school supplies isle!!!! :)

I always feel kind of geeky at work (although my co-workers never seem to mind)--but I like the basics--the filing and alphabetizing and organizing and basic officey-type stuff.

@Jessica--I used to alphabetize my books and dvds, but now I am in love with organization by color--my clothes, books, everything--I just love seeing the rainbow--it's like being in the school supplies isle all the time ;)

Hmm. I think I am a sucker for spreadsheets. (As in my manuscript revision process.) I love mapping things out and watching things add up on paper.

@Heather--signs I am a mega-geek--as soon as I saw your post, my first thought was "god, I would LOVE to see those spreadsheets"

and my second thought was about comparing handy tips for spreadsheets.

lol. I think I'm hopeless
