I’d been writing for several years (make that five) when I stumbled into Young Adult fiction by way of my then day job -- substitute teaching in a rural school district. When I realized that after Harry Potter there weren’t too many places for 12 year-old girls to go, I decided to write something for them.
What happened next is one of those magic progressions that led me to three Golden Heart nominations for best YA romance manuscript, landing a hottie NY agent, joining up with the fabulous Buzz Girls, winning the Golden Heart award, and then selling NEVER CRY WEREWOLF, my first-to-be-published paranormal book, to HarperCollins. OMG -- a lot's been going on!
NEVER CRY WEREWOLF, which will debut in April 2009, is the story of Shelby, a reluctant celebutante new to Beverly Hills who gets sent to brat camp, where she meets Austin Bridges the III, the hot son of a British rockstar who’s also a werewolf. When Austin’s anti-wolf serum is confiscated by the clueless camp director, Shelby finds herself torn between helping her crush escape camp to hide his secret and following the rules to save her own hide.
It’s got humor, romance, a hot werewolf hero, and lots of heart. It’s my favorite book I’ve written, and I’m pretty sure it’s my best. Currently, I’m in the second round of revisions for my super editor at Harper – and hoping that it will become a series because I’m so in luv with my characters. And yes, that’s - L-U-V!
It seems a long way off, April. But, I know that my hard work is making the story really come to life. That’s the magic of writing novels -- the not giving up, the immersion in the work, the way things come together in a way you never planned, and the waiting while the wheels of publishing turn.
Wishing you magic, love, and light -- and hot werewolves!
Heather

Omigosh, a lot has happened for you recently! It's like that in this biz, isn't it? You wait and wait and wait and then WHAM-O! Everything happens at once. All I have to say is, "Thank goodness you had the patience and perseverance to stick with it!" If not, then what would we all do in April '09 without your hot werewolf book to read? =)
(Oh, and there would be no Buzz Blog, either!)
Hugs Heather! Can't wait to read your book!
Even though I've known you for over a year now, Heather, I adored reading this and catching up, even filling in some of the "blanks" on your professional background.
And congratulations from one "overnight success" to another! :)
I can't wait to read NCW! My kids are watching Teen Wolf and I almost forgot how cool werewolves are. :)
I can't wait to read your book, Heather, and I bet your former students can't either. 2009 is going to be the year of Heather!
Your book sounds wonderful!
Oh and I'm another "overnight success" *snort*
Heather,
I too, can't wait to read your book as well as ALL the BUZZ GIRL'S books coming out in the near future.

Heather, since I met you at the GSRWA meeting (what 4 years ago now?) you were one of the sweetest, most helpful people to me. I'll always remember how you welcomed me into that group and made me feel like a real writer.
And when we become critique partners...wow! I really got to know you as a talented writer, a great friend and a natural leader.
Thanks for everything I agree with everyone, cannot wait for NCW to come out!
Aww... you guys are so sweet. I can't wait to see all the great things in store for the buzz girls and friends.
xxo
