Time Flies (Even When You’re Not Having Fun)

We continue our High School Series with What I Know Now That I Didn’t Know Then--about life in general.

For me, that’s a piece of cake. I yawned and dozed and daydreamed through much of my teen years.

And then, it seemed, all that changed. Lots of aspects of life started to interest me--including some of the subjects I'd slept through in school. I developed a deeper appreciation for tradition and family and doing-things-because-they-were-the-right-things-to-do. And the result was that my life turned into a speeding train.

Time flies (even when you're not having fun).

How I wish I could have some of that staring-into-space downtime back because I could fill it ten times over! Oh well, good thing the results on a “How long are you going to live?” quiz that I took last week came back as giving me sixty more years!

Tell us: how is it for you? The yawning lion or the speeding train?

* * * * *

Instead of “What I’m Reading” this week, you get my mug shot! In order to update my blogger picture, I had to post it here first...

I can SO relate to the time flying, Tina. What is that saying, Youth is wasted on the young, or something. Ain't it the truth? :)

I don't know Tina, I'm having a hard time picturing you as the daydreamy sort. =) I was never the stare into space girl--I was always planning something, everything from my wedding to my 4-year college schedule!

Yeah, Steph, great saying!

And TLC, I suppose it's fair to say I was my usual hyper-organizer self in social situations--just not in the classroom. When I think back to my teen years, my memories of watching-the-classroom-clock are so real I can still feel the boredom. LOL.

Hi Tina,
Time definitely goes by faster, the older we get. I do remember staring at that big old clock in the classroom and thinking that the class was never going to end. And that if I didn't get out of the room at exactly one minute after the bell, I'd miss seeing MY CRUSH as he left his classroom across the hall!

Great new picture, BTW.

Hmm, during high school classes it WAS the yawning lion for me, but when I was home I wanted to do things with my friends and it often felt like a speeding train. :) :)

Oh, yes, Janie, part of what made my classes so dull was the anticipation of seeing my crush in the hall! And I remember in the mornings, I was always hungry, too...

And Kelly, yeah, seeing my friends was always the best part of the day.

Thanks for weighing in!

I'm with you on the flying by of time. I can't believe summer is over and gone, as is September, and it's almost October. Craziness!

LOVE the new picture! You look fabulous.

Hugs,
Marley = )

Tina! Yes, I remember the staring off into space at the local coffee shop (back before Starbucks took off) and discussing for *hours* who would play each other in the movie version of our lives. Oh, for the hours lost! Now, things are so much faster, and there are more things to do. Thank goodness with writing there is much daydreaming required, because it takes me back. :)

Thanks, Marley and Heather! :) And I think my new blogger photo should come through with this post...
