We’re having a free forum week, which means we can talk about anything we want. And on my mind practically all this year has been kissing since I’ve either been brainstorming, first drafting or revising The ABC’s of Kissing Boys (Delacorte Press, Spring, 2009).
In preparing my bio for the book, I found myself writing up something about my first kiss...and I realized, I don’t know exactly when it was.
There was the quick “here goes nothing” brush of the lips I got from a guy during a Spin-the-Bottle game in 6th grade. It was undoubtedly a first for me, and I’m betting for him, too.

The sweet kiss one year later from my first boyfriend, which involved premeditation and at least a little emotion.
Which one do you think “counts” as my first kiss?

I think the second kiss was definitely your first, Tina! :) Am I the only person alive who wasn't played Spin the Bottle? :)
I'm gonna have to go with the spin-the-bottle kiss as the first kiss. Simply because you were there...it happened...and you remember it. = ) However, the second was your first real kiss, IMO.
I second Marley's pick. Spin-the-bottle = first kiss. Boyfriend = real kiss.
And Steph, I never played it either. Of course, I went to junior high in Minnesota, where most of the kids were already doing, um... other things. ;)

The second one I'd say is your "first". That's my vote!
I vote for the second one, too. Spin the Bottle kisses don't count for most people -- I mean, look at who you had to kiss! Except maybe yours was cute...?

Oh, Heather, good question about whether the Spin the Bottle guy was cute. At the time, I wasn't taken with him, but years later, that opinion changed. So while the memory is still of an awkward, embarrassing first kiss, I sometimes smile a little when I remember, too.
