My heroes have always been.....

MOMs

As I was trekking through the mall with a bad leg yesterday, I realized that my heroes are moms everywhere. I was on a mission to get my four-year-old a Surf's Up penguin ice cream cake & Thomas the train balloons for his birthday. It was bad enough he got sick and we couldn't go to Chuck E. Cheese, I wasn't about to not get him the cake he had been looking forward to. The pain of walking through the mall faded quickly after seeing the smile on his poor little chapped face!

In the last four years I've figured out that once you become a mom, you sacrifice yourself. Everything you want or need takes a backseat to your child or childrens needs and wants. Some days it's really hard. Some days you want to run away to the nearest spa and get a massage instead of cleaning up an entire 20 lb bag of dog food or figure out how to get an entire bottle of blue body wash out of the carpet. These are just a few examples from the last week at our house.
Being a mom is also the best thing in the entire world. Nothing can compare with hearing your child say, I love you, and top it off with the world's best hug. But no one can prepare you for how much your life gets turned upside down when you decide to share it with a little person. Moms have to be on guard constantly. There is no vacation or sick time. Moms don't get a review to let them know they are doing good, which they constantly doubt, and there are no pay increases or pay for that matter.
They have to stand calmly by and watch you make mistakes even though they know you might get hurt. Moms know that you some things you have to learn the hard way. And eventually they know that they are going to have to let go which might just be the hardest part of being a mom. So for goodness sake, call your mom today and tell her that you love her!

What I'm reading....Twisted Sisters revisions...UGH!

Oh, Steph, I couldn't agree more! Being a mother can feel totally thankless. I look back now on some of the hardest days of my life (when my three were little and my husband was traveling so much) and I can't believe I got through them. But it is also the most rewarding and most important job I've ever done...and as mine are in their teens now, I'm seeing the fruit of some of those early labors in their successes and the "good people" they're turning out to be, and I know that every minute and every sacrifice was worth it!

Great post. We should all hug our moms, and those of us with small children should get lots of kisses (with or without chocolate and other sticky substances smeared across our faces)

Today was a weird one for me because I was away from home and, therefore, my kids. This doesn't happen too often, and I was really looking forward to some quality adult time. It turned out to be a great day (except for the flat tire!), except that I really missed my kids. Motherhood is one strange land. ;)

And, totally changing subjects, I linked on my blog to your interview with Sara Hantz. :)

Thanks, Barrie! Yes, I agree. Motherhood IS one strange land. One minute I can be ready to run away and the next I'm actually alone and near tears b/c I miss them! UGH!
Thanks for the link!

I think we're really missing the point here. This was written two days before father's day. Us fathers are always getting the shaft. We really don't even have our own day anymore. Everything that celebrates Father's Day has to some how be tied into recent graduates. If I hear the term "Dads and Grads" one more time, I'm going to hurt someone. Moms are great, but there are a few cool dads out there too.

Steph,
You're so right! Just this morning I took "orders" from my kids what they wanted for breakfast. One wanted eggs and toast (with the egg baked inside a hole in the toast on the stove) and pancakes with mini chocolate chips sprinkled inside.
Mom's do so much and don't get "thank you" a lot...THANKS TO ALL MOMS!
