Love Deity Smackdown

In Greek mythology, there are two dieties of love: the goddess Aphrodite and the god Eros. On Valentine's Day, every greeting card and cutsie stuffed doll pays homage to Cupid (aka the Roman incarnation of Eros) but where is Aphrodite? There are no beautiful, long-haired goddesses in sight. Just short, pudgy, arrow-flinging babies.

My question (for a chance to win a copy of Oh. My. Gods. and Goddess Boot Camp) is:
Who would you rather have in charge of your love life?

Option A: The breathtaking goddess, Aphrodite, who embodies everything about beauty and romantic love. Flowers and candlelit dinners an quality time with your other half.

Option B: The diminutive and immature god, Eros, who represents the physical side love and who makes people fall in love by shooting them with magical arrows.

That's an easy choice for me. I'd far rather get bonked on the head with a golden apple by Aphrodite, than shot with a love arrow by Eros.

Choose and defend your love deity in comments and you could win signed copies of Oh. My. Gods. and Goddess Boot Camp.

Hugs,
TLC

Aprhodite, because her name has the word 'deity' and thus she is superior to Eros, who cares more about physical lurve, than love itself. Tis better to have loved and lost, rather than to have lurved and lost.

Also, being shot by arrows, magical or not doesn't seem lovely at all. Not at all.

Just to be contrary and to keep Aphrodite from a possible landslide, I'll jump into Camp Eros!

I'm with you, Tera, Aphrodite is the better choice. Love is hard enough as it is, I wouldn't want my love life controlled by a god that is immature. Besides, the physical side isn't always as enduring as the emotional side is.

I think I would like both, because they represent different sides of love and relationships.
But I must say I prefer Eros since I read the legend of Cupid and Psyche (The Tale of Amour - Psyche and The Tale of Eros and Psyche), where Eros fell in love with the human Psyche and Aphrodite is envious and jealous.

It would definitely have to be Aphrodite. She seems to care about what love really is.

I'm an Aphrodite fangirl.

I pick Eros -- post-Psyche, of course! She helped him discover what true love is, so I imagine that he's reformed and not quite as immature about creating relationships anymore. ;)

(Also, Aphrodite is just as immature--she's just more sneaky about it!)

I dunno the eros thing might be nice. It's pretty absolute, so it takes all the thinking out of it. That Aphrodite is a thinker, and enjoys a challenge!

definately Aphrodite, how you described her, thats totally what I have in mind when I think of love and romance.

Aphrodite definitely. Although what she does is very cheesy, it's real, unlike Eros, where you fall in love with someone because you, or someone else, got hit with an arrow. Plus, love is much more than being "physical"; you need to be able to show that you really do care for the other person, and have true feelings for them, in small ways, such as being showered with your favorite flower, or something along those lines. Therefore, Aphrodite is the better choice.

Definitely Aphrodite...I wouldn't want to be shot by arrows :)

I'll have to go with Aphrodite. I don't like the idea of getting shot with stuff. Even the Britney Christmas perfume ad freaks me out and it isn't even a real arrow. ;)

It's more romantic to spend time getting to know the guy, and having him be nice and romantic, than jumping all over me... So, Aphrodite!

Definitely Aphrodite. At least you can eat the apple, the arrow just hurts.

As a boy, I would naturally think Eros. Because it is a common myth that all guys think with their... wait for it... physical side. Unfortunately that is somewhat true for some of my fellow species. However, I am going to say that Aphrodite would get my vote. As you grow older the physicality of love is outweighed by the emotional aspect.

I'm going with Aprhodite! I would pay money to watch those two in a ring duking it out!

Team Aphrodite!
If Eros shoots me an arrow I wouldn't have any judgement over who I fall in love with :D

I vote for Team Eros. Those arrows hurt so good!

I'm for Team Eros. There is just something about a mini matchmaker flying around shooting arrows that is so adorable.

Option A
Team Aphrodite

I'm scared of pointy objects penetrating my skin, so Eros' arrows are so not that cool. And I'd rather have a bump on my head.

Aphrodite! Because love always identical with this goddess :)

I would definately have to say Aphrodite, getting shot with an arrow really doesn't sound that great.

Can I have both? I'd honestly like the combo. Maybe it'll be like having an apple balanced on my head that is shot with an arrow? :)

Is there really any question as to which is the preferable choice? Aphrodite, of course! I'm all about those sweet, thoughtful romantic gestures - no matter how small or grand. Plus I like apples :)

I would rather have real love than physical attraction so I guess Aphordite.
