Congrats to Heather on the paperback release of Never Cry Werewolf. With Halloween just around the corner I can't think of a better time for you to get yourself a copy! And don't forget that Heather is also giving away five autographed copies so make sure you comment each day this week for your chance to win! This week the Bee's are all talking about the second time we have done something and how much better the experience is. Several years ago, I picked up and moved to Colorado. My dad and stepmom lived out there but other than that I didn't know a soul. I was kind of in limbo when I first moved out, there not going to school or working, so it was next to impossible to make friends. The movie of Maeve Binchy's Circle of Friends came out at the theater. I wanted to go so bad I could hardly stand it. But my parents didn't really care for going to the movies so I made the decision to go alone. To a Friday night 7pm showing. Yeah, I know. I might as well of had an L tattooed on my forehead. I was scrunched in between two couples the entire time. After the movie I drove home sobbing and swore I would never, ever go see a movie alone again.

Fast forward about twelve years, a husband and two kids. I was desperate to see the movie Hairspray and get some "me" time. The only problem is that the only time I could get away was when all my friends were working and my husband said he would rather eat broken glass than see THAT movie. So I ventured off alone to the theatre. I admit that this time it was an early afternoon matinee and the theater was pretty empty. But I couldn't believe how different the experience was. I truly enjoyed myself and didn't rush from the movie bawling my head off.

(He is really why I wanted to see the movie)

I'm sure it made a difference that I was now married and a mommy when before I was certain that I would never find The One. Or maybe I had just grown up enough to realize that I don't need permission from strangers to do something I enjoy. And if the theatre around me had movies that ended before I had to pick the kids up from school I would probably be there every week.

Can you go see a movie or eat in a restaurant by yourself without worrying about what other people think?

When I go watch movies, I'm usually invited. However, sometimes I eat alone. I don't really care what other people say. I'm there to eat, to satiate my hunger. Not to show off that I'm with someone. So yes, I can eat alone in a restaurant without worrying what other people might think or say.

When going to the movies, before going, I like to make plans with other people to go so that I don't feel like an idiot. However, once I get there, I kind of regret bringing other people (unless it's scary, then I like knowing someone else I know is suffering, too lol). Either someones talking or unhappy with where they're sitting or they have to go to the bathroom, get popcorn, etc. (Kind of immature stuff, I know, but it happens.) So, I guess I could go see a movie by myself if I had to. I've never been put in that type of situation yet (at least that I can remember), but if I were, I might just say, 'I'll wait until it comes out on DVD, then I'll just rent it (plus, that way is cheaper). As for the restaurant thing, I am going to spin that around and make it the school cafeteria, which is pretty similar. I can eat by myself, though I do feel awkward when everyone else is talking and sitting with their friends. I just started a new school, and I hardly know anyone, yet everyone seems to have someone to talk to. So, I have kind of gotten used to not really sitting with a group of friends. However, I do hope to find someone to sit and talk with, or even just sit with so that I don't feel alone. But, as for now, I am fine with sitting alone because I am there to eat my food, wait for the bell, then go back to class. That's it.

I can and I learned how to do it with my last boyfriend. There were a lot of movies I wanted to see that he wouldnt go to.

That's a very interesting story, Steph. Traveling for work, I do often eat alone - and I have gone to a movie by myself a few times. More when I was married, than single, btw.

One year I saw three Oscar contenders alone. As Chicago's credits rolled, I turned to say something and no one was there by my side. But, another woman on her own said, "hey, wasn't that great?" on the way out, and we chatted a bit. I wasn't the only one there solo and it was totally fine.

Very cool post, Steph. ;)

I don't go to the movies or out to eat by myself. I feel like it wouldn't be as fun with no one there to share it with!

I love going to see the afternoon matinee's by myself because there's not a lot of people that go to watch movies at that time and you can always get good seats and stretch out.

Great post!!!

I LOVE movies!!!!--I'm a HUGE movie fan--I just love to watch EVERYTHING--Especially the weekend it comes out.

I love going with my friends or family and being able to share the experience with other people.

But when I was in college, I noticed that my friends had different priorities than I did--They would say they wanted to see a movie, but they didn't want to spend the money, or never had the time--And so that's when I stopped waiting around for other people. I was nervous at first, but everything was fine.

I was a lot happier once I stopped waiting on everybody else.

Same goes for restaurants. I wanted to go sit somewhere and have a nice meal, my friends were always too busy, or didn't want to go where I wanted to go--so I take a book and have a nice meal all by myself.

I lived out east for a while, and my friends had grown up around all the touristy stuff--I didn't know when I'd have the chance to be there again, so I had to take advantage of the time I had--All by myself I went to the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. I went dancing in the Poconos, and in New York. I went to the ocean. And I went to Punxatawny for Ground Hog's Day.

These are some of the best memories I have--I would have loved to have shared them, but I wouldn't give them up for the world. I'm glad I didn't sit around and wait!!!!

I love seeing movies alone! I can sit wherever I want. :-)

I also dine alone a lot. I just bring a book -- no one cares! And I get to eat wherever I want, which is a bonus.

Never tried it... well, other than when I worked at a theme park and ate lunch in the restaraunts around the park all by myself. I didn't eat in the break room. I don't think many people there noticed me, lol, they were too busy going on about the fun they were having.

I've never been to a movie alone, not sure I could do it either. I like having company. I'm from a big family so if I do something alone its really... odd. lol. I don't know what to do with myself.

I will go to the movies by myself, and sometimes eat alone, depending on the restaurant. I'm an only child. Twice divorced. If I waited for someone to go with me to everything I wanted to do, I'd miss a lot of great things. I went to 3 concerts this past summer that were out of this world. I bought tickets and went by myself. :) I'm not a loser, I'm just fiercely independent.
