We haven't talked about boys for a while....
My favorite TV show is Worst Week. This sitcom features Kyle Bornheimer as the adorable, bumbling Sam Briggs. He is such a wonderful physical actor. I always laugh so hard watching his antics very week. If you haven't watched this yet you really should. It helps that Kyle is just totally adorable.
Last, but definitely not least, is David Cubitt. He plays Detective Lee Scanlon. First off, I have a weakness for officers of the law. But this guy is just SOOOOO delish. He has this husky voice and just radiates hotness. He is kind of rough around the edges which just makes him that more appealing.
Who is your favorite TV hottie?

Tera's Copying Tina
Tina's teaser post yesterday was brilliant. (Plus, it's one a.m. and I'd like to get a bath and sleep for a little while tonight.) So I'm going to copy her meme.
According to Tina:
You open up whatever book is closest to a random page (and for purposes of the Buzz Girls Blog, let’s go with the closest YA or YA-friendly book) and select two lines. With the provision that the lines are simply teasers, not spoilers (in other words, they do not give the storyline away), you then type those two lines, along with the title and author’s name.
I've chosen Feeling Sorry For Celia by Jaclyn Moriarty (because this is the book I am currently reading and because I have a previously mentioned obsessive admiration for this author):
So anyway, I hope it's not very important if the holes in the circus tents don't get sewn up properly. I mean, I hope it doesn't mean the lions will escape or anything.
How was that for a teaser?
This is actually Jaclyn Moriarty's first book and I'm only just now allowing myself to read it. (I've had it for months.) And I still haven't let myself read her latest. I think it's for the same reason I haven't allowed myself to watch the two seasons of Angel that I bought on dvd. Because then it will be over! Then there will be only tears and much waiting.
Okay, anyone who wants to continue the meme tradition, please do so.
Hugs,
TLC

Tina’s SUCH a tease!
Here’s mine from Miss Match by Wendy Toliver:
I muscle my way up the steps and “excuse me, pardon me, ouch!” my way to her side. “Why do you always have to sit in the nosebleed section?” I ask, slightly out of breath.
Who else is a tease?

The Superbowl of Movies!
Yay! If you love movies as much as I do, you'll be settling in to watch the big show shortly.
I expect that my Heath Ledger will win his posthumous Oscar for The Dark Night -- but the other categories all seem like wildcards this year.
Will you be watching? Did you watch? Who do you think was robbed and who looked fabulous on the red carpet. Let me know in the comments section!

P.S. -- I just turned in The Clearing to my HMH editor yesterday and I am sooooo excited about this book. I can't wait for everyone to read my most romantic and touching story ever. (IMHO, of course.) :) I think you're going to fall in love with my WWII guy, Henry.

Awesome new YA book!!!
I'm not a mother, but I'm a mother hen. And when a good friend has an amazing accomplishment, I have to gush just like she's a kid of mine.
My friend and critique parter, Wendy Toliver, has just debuted her new YA romantic comedy entitled MISS MATCH and it's just the most adorable book. I had the priviledge of reading this book in the early stages...before it was even bought. And let me tell you...what a fun, satisfying, heartwarming read this is.
Sasha Finnegan has always had a knack for setting people up, and at sixteen, she's turned her talent into an online business, molding high school crushes into true love. But Sasha finds her toughest match yet when hottie Derek Urban asks her to set him up with Sasha's gorgeous sister, Maddie. It's not that Derek isn't a good catch. In fact, after spending so much time with him, Sasha can't help but think he's perfect -- for her, that is. Can Sasha push her feelings aside for the sake of her business? Or has this miss finally found her match?
To celebrate Wendy's new release, I'm going to give away a copy of the book to our loyal Books, Boys, Buzz readers. Just leave a comment in the stream telling us about any matchmaking you or a friend has done in your life. Winner will be announced next Wednesday.
Congrats to Wendy!! Love ya, hon!!

Today, I Am A Slacker
So, instead of totally slacking, I'm going to point out the we Bees have just upgraded to the new Blogger template (yeah, I know it's not really new anymore). That means we can have our follow widget out there on the right (scroll down a bit, you'll see it) so that anyone who wants to can just click to follow us!
Also, I changed out our covers from a Flickr widget to Library Thing which is so much cooler and let's you go buy the book on Amazon just by clicking the cover! How cool is that? (You'll note that some of our covers--like Goddess Boot Camp, Never Cry Werewolf, and Ghost Huntress #2--aren't showing up. That's because they don't have covers on Library Thing yet. But they'll be there soon!)
I hope you enjoy our upgraded blog. (Now click FOLLOW! You know you want to!)

Love, Luck, Fortunes -- & GIVEAWAY!
First of all --
Happy Valentine's Weekend!
I hope you had a great V-day. Mine was really fun... and I got flowers from my valentine. They were so pretty, I had to post the picture so you could enjoy them too. And, not having received roses on valentines in over a decade, I can tell you they were a wonderful surprise.
Also, my valentine and I went to dim sum with my friends. Have you been recently? Oh my gosh -- so much food. And though it's delish, it's not the best for you. So it is a rare and wonderful treat.
And at the end of dim sum -- what else? The fortune cookies...
This time, my fortune read, "You will hear pleasant news soon." Uh... thanks? What the heck is pleasant news, anyway? I guess it was better than some fortunes I've received, but it was kind of anticlimactic -- especially when my sister's said, "Your lover will never leave you." No fair!! Who writes these things?
So, I actually save my fortunes. Here is a (blurry, I know) picture of the latest collection on my fridge's door.
Let's check for accuracy:
"You will have great fortune and luck." (Hmm... jury's still out on that one.)
"Your love life will change for the better." (Ok, this seems to be true... but I don't want to jinx anything.)
"Your financial situation will soon be improving." (Is the check in the mail? I'm not so sure.)
"You will receive an unexpected gift." (YES! The roses!! Although, wait -- this fortune is from a few months ago.)
"You will hear pleasant news soon." (Crossing my fingers that this is from my super agent about the draft of the MS I just turned in...)
Anyway -- in the spirit of the fickle fortunes of chinese food and love -- here is the final giveaway of Valentine's Week on Books, Boys, Buzz!
To enter, please comment about a fortune you received and if it came true. Extra brownie points if it's about LOVE! Extra double brownie points if it's funny.
One lucky winner will receive the prizes shown -- a copy of the YA anthology LOVE IS HELL (starring Scott Westerfeld!) and a box of delicious Emily's Love fortune cookies.
You have until Monday at 10 AM PST to comment here and enter to win! The winner will be announced later that day here on the Buzz Blog. Tell you friends to stop by and enter -- both weekend giveaways don't end until tomorrow!!
Good luck and xoxo!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY EVERYONE!!!
Sorry for the late post tonight, but I was at a *very* special Valentine’s Day Tea and Chocolate party hosted by some truly “romantic” authors: Pat White, Alexis Morgan, Shelli Stevens, Lacey Danes and yours truly (even though the verdict is still out on how “romantic” I am!)
We had an amazing evening author meet n' greet and saw tons of old and new friends!
There were tons of various forms of chocolates, delicious tea a la Pat White, cookies and amazing friends!
Our friends are awesome!

Okay, so we all agree that Matt is seriously sexy (if you do not feel this way, please have your eyes checked immediately!) But I have to admit I'm a sucker for the not-so-obvious sexy things that guys do. Like unloading the dishwasher. Playing with a baby. Painting your toenails. In my third book, SPRING BREAKUP (which comes out MARCH 3!!!), Aspen's boyfriend, Rand, is always thinking of something sweet to do for her which translates to sexy in my book. I'm also giving away an ARC of Spring Breakup today. For those of you who don't know what an ARC is. It is just a basic copy of the book, that can still contain some small errors. It doesn't have a fancy glossy cover but if you win it, you get to know what happens before anyone else can buy their copy at the bookstore. So ARC's are kind of cool.
If you want to have a chance to win an ARC of Spring Breakup and a DVD of Fool's Gold, leave me a comment about what makes a guy sexy to you (keep it clean!).
If you want some more Matthew, here's a clip of his new movie, The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past coming out in May. It looks super cute. Enjoy!
Good luck and Happy Valentine's Day!

More Valentine's Week Giveaways
To enter, leave a comment on the most romantic thing that has happened to you in your life (or that of a friend). We're all suckers for a happy ending or something that makes us cry sweet tears. You may enter as many stories as you'd like to qualify for the chocolate basket and books.
And here's a fun Valentine's Day tool...you've all see the Obamicon pics, right? Well, they have a Luvicon version, as well. Check it out! Here's one I did of my kitty, Stanley...isn't he precious? Wouldn't you want HIM to be Valentine?
Hugs all around!

The Valentine Extravaganza Continues
Today, I'll be giving away a signed copy of OH. MY. GODS. (the hardcover edition, with the soon-to-be-collector's-item cover) as well as the LOVE NOTES GIFT PACK.
In this pack you'll find: hearts-covered pencils, red hot pencil sharpener, heart-themed sticky notes and note pad, two packs of heart stickers, a heart-shaped spiral notebook, a set of bookmark pens with love quotes, and the totally adorable Xs and Os confetti! (I really should have gotten an extra set for myself!)
So, how do you win this awesome giveaway? Well, I'm gonna make you work for it. First, I want you to think of your favorite hero from a book (like maybe Griffin from OH. MY. GODS.--wink, wink, nudge, nudge--no, you won't get extra points for choosing him). Then, describe your ideal Valentine's day date with him.
The winner will be posted (by the darling Buzz Girl Steph) on Monday.
Hugs,

Viva Mexico!
In December, I went to Mexico City to interview candidates for jobs at Microsoft. The experience was absolutely NOT what I expected...
Me on top of the "Moon" pyramid
...to the day off where we got to explore the pyraminds at Teotihuachan. We also stopped by a tequila farm and sampled the goods!
There were some great stories about the indigeneous peope who used to live there. Did you know that when two teams played a sporting event, the WINNING team's captain would have his head chopped off? Weird, huh?
The funniest thing I saw where these "antler" mobiles I saw all over the city to celebrate Christmas. Cute, huh?
Did you know that the first chocolate beverage is believed to have been created by the Mayan peoples around 2000 years ago, and a cocoa beverage was an essential part of Aztec culture by 1400 A.D?
- Sugar
- Flaked coconut
- Dark chocolate pieces
- Mexican chipotle chili powder
- Sea Salt
- Milk
I boil the milk and then add everything else...so good!
Do you have a favorite hot-chocolate recipe to share?

Mid-winter Writing Retreat
I got tagged over on Facebook for a "25 Random Things About Me," so I thought I would respond here and tag all of our readers for whoever want to weigh in in the comment section are welcome to...and the random thing I think is the most clever...well, I'll send you a copy of any one YA book that you'd like from one of our Buzz Girls.
Here we go...
- I've lived in four (4) states: Massachusetts, Virginia, Texas, Alabama
- My two kitties both have six (6) toes on their back paws.
- I'm a self-taught gourmet chef and I probably own every ridiculous kitchen gadget there is like a mango slicer and a rasper and an apple corer.
- I can sing "O Canada" - in English and in French.
- I think bean sprouts are the creepiest food there is.
- I still have all four (4) wisdom teeth.
- I used to be a child actor in the university town I grew up in. I was in The Sound of Music, The Music Man, The King and I, Showboat, Oklahoma!, and Help! Help! The Globbalinks!
- The first time I flew was when I was five years old and my brother and I rode in a crop-dusting plane.
- I'm allergic to tree nuts.
- I've met three (3) United States presidents.
- I have a photographic memory...which would have come in handy in college had I known then. Doh!
- Watched MTV premiere in August 1981 at my fellow cheerleader, Gwen's, house. She had a satellite!
- Can twirl a baton.
- My hair isn't naturally curly. = )
- I'm the baby of my family by nine (9) years.
- My grandpa was a master carpenter on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award.
- I sleep on my stomach.
- I saw a full-bodied apparition at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado back in November. It was...amazing. Total chill bumps and tears when I realized what it was.
- I still listen to my favorite 80s artists just like they're still on the radio: Rick Springfield, Hall and Oates, Journey, Billy Joel.
- Has sat in the chair of the Speaker of the House.
- I'm a cancer survivor.
- I could eat clam chowder for every meal.
- I'm addicted to online Sudoku...up to the "hard" level.
- I Google myself. (LOL!)
- Think that chocolate chip cookie dough is actually better than the baked cookies.
There you have it...25 random things about me. Now it's your turn!!
Hugs,
Marley = )

Not To Be Left Out (aka More News) Plus Mermaids
- The first review for GODDESS BOOT CAMP is in ... and it's lovely!
- Last week I finalized a deal for my next two books at HarperTeen (technically Katherine Tegen Books). The first, a mermaid story called FORGIVE MY FINS, will come out in 2010 and the untitled TBA sequel to follow ... sometime after.
SPLASH -- Is there a child of the 80s (girls anyway) who didn't love this movie? It's about a guy (Tom Hanks) who was saved by a mermaid (Daryl Hannah) as a child and the love story that develops between Allen and Madison as she tries to keep her secret on dry land. I could watch this movie a million times. I think maybe I have--I used to have it on vhs. I probably wore out the tape. I can't tell you how badly I wanted to be Madison, how much I wished that the next time I took a bath I would suddenly sprout a fin. (Sadly, that never happened. Not even with salt water. Sigh.) Lily has Madison's long, pale blonde hair, but she's, um, a little (a lot) smarter.
THE LITTLE MERMAID -- One of my fave Disney movies of all-time. This came out when I was in high school and my best friend and I just fell in love. Poor Ariel trying to get her charming Prince Eric to kiss her when she doesn't have her voice! She was such a (pardon the bad pun, but you knew it was coming) fish out of water. And the songs. I still sing the songs. (I'm singing them right now. Just be very, very glad you're not here. My voice does not sound like Ariel's.) Lily shares Ariel's fascination with all things human (which isn't exactly surprising, since Lily's mom was human) but her love life is a little more complicated.
H2O -- This is a totally fun Australian TV series on Nick about three average teenage girls ... who just happen to be mermaids. I've only seen a couple of episodes, but I have my dvr set. Two major bonuses to this series: (1) Australian accents, and (2) Australian boys with Australian accents. Yum. Unfortunately, there are no Australian accents in FORGIVE MY FINS (which takes place in south Florida) but there are biker boys, swim studs, and messenger gulls.
Okay, have I missed any? What are your favorite mermaids or mermaid stories? I need to know. Seriously. For research purposes. (Okay, maybe technically FINS is already written, so it might be because I just love watching a good mermaid story. Maybe.)
Hugs,
TLC

Some News from NYC
Never Cry Werewolf has been moved to the fall list at HarperTeen. The new official release date = September 1st.
Initially, I was bummed. I've been waiting a long time for the book to debut (sold it in Oct. 2006) but after thinking about the pros and cons of the release date, I think that fall is going to be just fine.
It'll be a great spooky read for Halloween, will be coming out just as everyone is heading back to class for the year (school visits!) and will hopefully make it on to some Christmas lists, even. So, I'm optimistic that the universe has a master plan that will benefit the book in the long run.
If you believe in Mercury retrograde (part of Astrology stuff) you know that delays and problems happen during that phase. So, I'm kind of counting the rescheduling as part of that, and then in other news, I twisted my ankle on Saturday. Let's hope the Mercury drama is on the way out... it's supposed to end today, Feb. 1 -- and I'm sure ready for it to be done.
Anyway, have a great Superbowl Sunday -- and mark your fall reads calendar with NCW on September 1st. The best things in life are worth waiting for... right?
hugs,
Heather
