Many of you know that Buzz Girl Tera Lynn Childs and I have had our books, Oh.My.Gods and How to Hook a Hottie, nominated by the Romance Writers of America for Best Young Adult Book at their annual conference/RITA award ceremony this upcoming week.
It's been a crazy few days for me, for in and around shopping, planning and packing for the trip to Washington, D.C., real life, of course, reared its head with various highs and lows which included rushing my 89 year-old aunt to the ER in an ambulance (she's fine now) and celebrating my birthday with a dinner out, my first iPod, and the SWEET news that my husband got me upgrades on my flights.
So I thought you'd like to see a picture of me, taken just moments ago:
Okay, obviously kidding, but that's how I feel!
I'd also like to mention how happy Tera and I are to be in the company the lovely and talented Rosemary Clement-Moore, whose book, Hell Week is the third nominee in the Young Adult category.
And to let our readers know that the winners will be posted rather instantaneously on www.rwanational.org (you may need to find the site's exact page). The award ceremony is Saturday, July 18 at 8 pm EST.
And meanwhile, any advice on the actual award ceremony is appreciated! Keep the heels low so I can walk? Don't drink too much water beforehand? Bring speech notes on an index card? What say you?

Since it's a YA book, do what YA's do! Wear flip flops and write your "crib notes" on your forearm. Now THAT says "class"!
LOL, thanks, Chuck! Duly noted!
Sounds like you've got it down, Tina! (Don't drink too much water, low heels, etc.)
And IMHO, it's definitely best to prepare a speech ahead of time. Folks who win, then say "I didn't think I'd win so I didn't prepare a speech" and then ramble and forget to say what they really wanted, aren't as much fun for the audience (or themselves) as those with a witty speech all ready to go (and memorized...)
Anyway, that's just MHO! Good luck!
I agree, Cara! And although *I don't expect to win* I have written some stuff up because I'm afraid of forgetting someone. Thank you!
That's ok, you don't have mention me specifically by name -- just tug on your ear, Carol Burnett style! ;)
Congratulations on your nominations and good luck at the awards!

You should have your phone with you and text me before even giving your acceptance speech! Tera already knows that I won't accept anything less! ;)
Chuck, the ear tug is a go! But Steph, the texting thing might be a little bit harder. Tera, you see, will be happy CALM. I will be happy PANICKED. The text will need to wait until I've been recussitated. ;)
Many thanks, Iris!
LOL--see, couldn't even spell RESUSCITATED. Some Scrabble player I am!
I'm with Chuck...take your crib notes...or your Cliff's Notes. LOL!!
Good luck to you, Tera, and Rosemary (an agency sistah!) -- there are no losers in that pack! I'm hoping for a three-way tie!
Hugs!!!
Oooo...text me too!!!!
Wear something comfortable that you don't have to adjust much when you sit or stand. If you wear a skirt, make it tea length so you don't flash anyone.
Use mints not gum.
Make sure the font is large enough to be easily seen so you don't squint.
Skip lip gloss since it moves too much and ends up in the corners of the mouth or on teeth more often. For that matter, a translucent powder over all of your makeup will prevent glistening.
Know that you look hot and deserve to be there. So be yourself and have fun!
Thanks, Marley and Mena!
Aw. That's an adorable picture :P
