Celebrity Tell-Alls!

I love a good celebrity autobiography. “Good” being the operative word. One with a strong narrative voice, interesting stories, and life-reflecting insights.

I usually read two or three a year, although for some reason, I find this mildly embarrassing to admit, like celebrity autobiographies are not "real books." In fact, if you asked me last month what I was reading, odds are I mentioned Linda Howard--not Carrie Fisher--even though both authors had books on my nightstand.

But I’ve realized I'm being ridiculous, and to follow the example of some of these these celebs and go full disclosure! With no further adieu (other than totally cute pictures of two of these celebs from their younger days), here are some celebrities whose tell-alls I have enjoyed in recent years:

Judith Jacklin (John Belushi’s wife)
George Burns
David Cassidy
Carrie Fisher
Michael J. Fox
Kathy Lee Gifford
Marilu Henner
Magic Johnson
Cynthia Lennon (John Lennon’s first wife)
Tatum O’Neal
Gilda Radner
Geraldo Rivera

How about you? Call out some celebrity autobiographies that you’ve that I know what to pick up next time I need a fix!

I've read the autobiographies of the entire original Star Trek cast!

Actually, they were extremely interesting, and I learned a lot from them. (For instance, James Doohan, who played Scotty, was part of the Normandy Invasion.)

And I just finished John Barrowman's bio and am halfway through Kristen Chenoweth's!

I've actually never read a celebrity autobiography. I guess I don't venture out of the fiction section often! ;)

I've read a couple recently. I really enjoyed Carrie Fisher's autobiography though it was way short. I'm really looking forward to Kathy Griffin's memoir. I usually tend to love reading autobiographies from comedians rather than just anybody. Rue McClanahan's was really good as was Barbara Walters' (listened to that one on audio). I also really want to read ones from Julie Andrews, Kathie Lee Gifford, and Cloris Leachman.

I haven't read any celeb autobiographies, so I'm going to read some from your list.

Cara, the Star Trek cast! How interesting. And I really like when celeb autobiographies have overlaps, because with the multiple POV's, it's like being there, huh?

BookChic, I agree that Carrie Fisher's could have been a lot longer. And I'm taking notes on your other recommendations!

I really enjoyed "My Sergei" my Katia Gordeeva. I'm a huge fan of ice skating, particularly pairs and this book was about Olympic Russian pairs team Katia Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov. The best pairs team. In. The. World. back in the early 80's. Her husband was only 28 yrs old when he died on the ice during skating practice from an undetected heart condition.

When the news broke, I cried. It was just so sad. They really connected with each other on the ice. You could tell that they loved each other and they loved to skate. They were amazing to watch and to have such a young life cut short like that...

Celise, I had forgotten about that ice skating couple. Sounds like a really emotional book. Thanks!
