Reading on...the Nook!

Because I live on the RV, it's hard to hoard the amount of books that I'm used to, well...hoarding. I had to put all of my precious books into storage to read another day. But I've found a solution...

My Nook!

I got this wonderful tool at the Romance Writers of America conference in Orlando this summer and it has changed my life. I can now literally carry 1,500 books with me anywhere I go. And there are tons of free and cheap downloads to nab. Of course, I had to get the Kate Spade "traveler" cover to go with it.

I just finished FORGET YOU, by my friend and critique partner, Jenn Echols. She really knows how to delve into teen relationships and make them come alive on the page. I also downloaded former Buzz Girl, Simone Elkeles' PERFECT CHEMISTRY and will begin reading that shortly.

Two of the free ebooks I got were THE COMPLETE WORKS OF JANE AUSTEN and Louisa May Alcott's LITTLE WOMEN. It's amazing how many classics are available for free. I plan to catch up on them and remember how wonderful these stories are.

Have you gotten into the ebook craze? What do you think of it? I'll admit, I still love the smell and feel of a book and wandering through the book store reading the back and deciding which one will come home with me. But, for now, this is a really convenient device for me. Let us hear your thoughts!

Hugs,
Marley = )

I am getting an e-reader for Christmas and have been going back and forth over kindle or Nook, so thanks for the review!

I just finished Forget You, too, and loved it. Jenn is one of my favorite authors, you are so blessed to have her as a friend and CP . . . and I am sure she feels the same about you! :-)

Happy Writing!

I have had a Kindle for a couple of years now, and my reaction is pretty much the same as yours. LOVE the convenience, but miss the paper format, so I continue to read and buy in both formats.

One thing I am really liking is the free first chapter downloads. With so many books out there, it helps me narrow down my choices and make the most of my limited reading time.

A perfect example is FORGET YOU by Jennifer Echols! I downloaded the first chapter and got so hooked that I ordered it in paperback to take with me on my trip to Hawaii next month!

I haven't got one yet, but I think it's a great idea!

I recently re-read Edgar Rice Burroghs "John Carter of Mars" series on my...wait for it...wait for it...iPod! 3" x 2" of pure pixel pleasure. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be

I really want a Kindle for Christmas. I'm always forgetting to take a book with me and I figure that way I'll stick it in my purse so I always have something to read. Nothing could ever replace a real book though. :) And I really need to read Forget You. Jen is so fabu. I bet Midge appreciates you dropping the extra book weight too. :)

I have a Nook, too! I got it for my birthday about a month ago, and I love it already. I'm with you that my heart still belongs to the printed book, but for storage and traveling purposes, it's great. Plus I can play soduko anytime! :)

Rachel...one thing that (to me) makes the Nook superior is because the Kindle is proprietary only to Amazon.com downloads. However, the Nook can download from anywhere. I really like that feature.

Great post Marley!!!! I could go on and on about how I've been won over by ebooks--but I'll try not to...

I still love the smell and feel of REAL books--but as a lifelong bookhoarder, the Nook was the best investment I could have made--and it's paid for itself well over with all the free ebooks I download!!! I love that I can pick up all the classics that I want to and catch up, or that when I go on vacation--or even to work, I don't have to worry about leaving any of my favorites or new books behind, they're always with me.

I've read Ghost Huntress: The Counseling, Forgive My Fins, Lifted, and Never Cry Werewolf all on my Nook!!!!--And all before the bookstores even open--another big advantage to being able to download books!!!

@Jessica I totally heart the Sudoku feature!!!!

@Rachel and anyone else who's looking--Overall I LOVE my Nook, but that's not to say there weren't some kinks to sort out---Like I said, I can go on and on...but I researched this a lot before I bought it, but still there were a lot of things I didn't find out until I actually had it in my hands. It doesn't feel kosher to pimp my blog--but if any of want more info before you buy, I've written like three posts about the process--I think you can just click on my name to find my blog if you're interested...Best of luck, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!!!
