Royal Buzz

I was a big Princess Diana fan. In fact, one of the golden moments of my life was standing beside the dining room table in the Governor’s Mansion in Sydney, Australia, and realizing that it was the same table in the room where she and Charles hosted those state dinners after William was born. (It doesn’t take much to thrill me.)

So when I was in London last July, I signed up for a tour of Buckingham Palace, and I tried to soak in as much royal heritage and Diana-ness as possible.

Naturally, I have an innate fondness for her sons--both of whom seem to have matured into responsible young men who would have made her proud.

And I am delighted with William’s apparent “choice” of Kate Middleton. She seems to understand his lifestyle, and to make him happy.

While rumors continue to fly that he’s going to pop the question, I heard another rumor while I was in London, that apparently--like his Uncle Andrew and Aunt Fergie did so many years ago--William and Kate are already secretly living together.

I’m not sure if I believe this. Yes, Andrew got away with it. But the press being what it is today, I can’t help thinking that the British--if not the American--press would “out” them. Or maybe they have and I just haven’t heard?

But in any case, William and Kate seem like a terrific couple, and given the difficulties of his childhood and the daunting demands of the days ahead of him, I wish them both every happiness. And I hope Diana is smiling down on them.

Tina,
I was also a huge fan. And I remember exactly where I was when I heard that she had died and how horrible I felt. When I was in London I saw the shrine at Harrods that was built for them. But I didn't take the Palace Tour. Maybe next time. And maybe in our next lives, we'll both come back as Princesses!

Thanks for filling me in about William, Tina! I'm so out of the loop there, but I had a fondness from Princess Diana too. :)

Hey, it's a lot different reading the GG arc instead of computer docs, huh? =D

Yeah, Janie, let's be princesses in our next lives. But nothing's going to keep us from wearing tiaras in this one. In fact, I do remember a certain night last spring in Natick hotel bar with tiaras in our hair. All
Lauren Barnholdt's fault! :)

Kelly, as you know, my heart has been bursting with pride as I've been reading your ARC, touching back on the earliest days when this book was just some ideas in your head, and seeing what an incredible job you did of bringing it all together!

Ooh, an ARC of Graffiti Girl, I'm sooo jealous!
I love Prince William, he is such a doll! I also remember the day that Princess Diana died, so sad, and to watch those two little boys trailing behind their mothers casket, I bawled my eyes out. It seems that they have both turned out pretty good considering.

Yeah, the princes were always a little close to my heart. It's good to see them both turning out so well, though I'll admit Harry's my favorite. I've got a bit of a crush on the red-headed scoundrel. ;)

Wills has so much going for him--the cute blushy pink cheeks, Diana's gorgeous smile, a kingdom in wait--how can you not love him? And, jealousy aside, Kate Middleton seems like an outstanding choice.

Great Buzz Tina--now everyone can say they heard it here first.

They looked cute and happy together. I have a soft spot for the boys, too, as I was one of those young girls waking up at 3:00 a.m. to watch all of the Diana and Charles wedding festivities, only to stay awake that late the night she died. So tragic.

Steph and Marley, I, too, was up for those early morning events, in fact, my husband insisted I get up for her funeral to try to "get over it and move on".

And TLC, so funny about your jealousy...yeah, if it doesn't work out for him and Kate, maybe someone could post his e-mail for you?

Lisa, yeah, Harry's a cutie, I totally agree.

Thanks for weighing in!

You're right, Tina--I think their mom would be proud of them both. And I, too, watched both the wedding and the funeral, and I still get teary when I hear that Elton John song about Diana.

Kate does seem like a good match...since he's too young for me and too old for my daughters!;-)

Oh, yeah, Natalie, "Goodbye England's Rose" will never fail to make me tear up!

Thanks for weighing in!
